Bucs V-Ball Squad Headed To Championship Play

OSWEGO, NY – Every athletic team had goals and when the 2011 season commenced. The Oswego High School boys’ varsity volleyball team had just one thought in mind…”States or Bust.”

On Nov. 12, at the Jamesville-DeWitt High School gymnasium the goal was achieved as the Oswego High School boys’ varsity volleyball team earned a spot in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association semifinals.

This Saturday the Bucs will be among the elite four teams who will vie for the state crown at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. The round robin format will see the Bucs play two games against three other opponents in an effort to whittle the four team semifinal field to the championship pairing.

This past weekend, the Section III champion Bucs met Section IV titleholder Horseheads for the right to advance.

The Bucs defeated Horesheads earlier this season in a non-league match and when a berth to the final four was on the line responded accordingly.

Oswego won the first game 25-14 and the second proved to be a bit tighter with the Bucs capturing the closest game of the three by a 25-20 count. The bid to continue on in post season play was capped with a 25-17 game three victory.
