On a happier note than last week, we have been thinking about pet toys, especially free ones.
We have all had the experience of buying very cool, very expensive toys for our furry friends only to have them be ignored, disdained even.
Like when you give underwear to a teenager who was expecting something electronic.
At the same time, we have all been amazed at the things that our pets will find to play with that are not at all shiny and bright, but apparently infinitely amusing.
Think about it – for cats it could be crumpled up foil, milk bottle tops, toilet paper rolls, boxes, paper bags.
Sure, you have to monitor this “everything looks like a mouse” tendency of cats.
(Uh-oh! Here we go again!)
String is lots and lots of fun but dangerous if swallowed.
But, with common sense you can keep your cat amused forever without spending a penny.
For dogs, it could be something to carry around, a stick, a ball, or something to play tug with, a piece of rope, an old shirt.
Once again, nothing small enough to swallow, but sturdy enough to keep him occupied.
We looked on the Internet to see what ideas are out there and we found literally hundreds of sites and blogs with ideas and instructions for creating wonderful homemade toys using common household items that you would otherwise throw away.
Check it out.
We hope you will be inspired.
Now that you have saved all this money – go out and adopt another pet or if not, donate to the Oswego County Humane Society so more furry friends can find homes with great toys!
