Budget Presentation on Oswego Board of Education Agenda Monday

OSWEGO, NY – Obstacle after obstacle has confronted the Oswego City School District administration as a budget proposal needs to be finalized by late April.

On May 19 voters will go to the polls to act upon the proposed budget as well as elect two members to the board of education.

However, with the intentional delays by Governor Andrew Cuomo on the state aid runs and the ever challenging negotiations with the nuclear power plants, there is more unknown than knowns when building a budget.

Monday at 5 p.m. Oswego Superintendent of Schools Ben Halsey will present  up to as many as three scenarios as he prepares the budget.

With no figures available at this time from the state in regards to education aid and the ongoing, but apparently stalled negotiations of whether the nuclear power plants remain on the tax rolls or enter into another payment in lieu of taxes agreement, the district is at a standstill.

However, that standstill is not possible as the board of education must adopt a proposed budget to bring to the taxpayers.

This could be a very difficult budget season for not only the Oswego City School District, but districts throughout the state.

Following the budget presentation the board will turn to act on the regular evening agenda.

The 5 p.m. Monday meeting will be  in the board room at the lower level of the Education Center.
