Burritt Motors recently completed a seven-month, $2.2 million expansion and renovation of their entire dealership, it was announced by Chris and Rich Burritt, co-owners. A formal grand opening is planned for February 2013.
“We moved in during the last week of November and we’re all enjoying our brand new dealership,” said Chris Burritt. “Our customers love it too! Everything from the cozy fireplace, comfy chairs, Wi-Fi and gourmet coffee in our lounge, to the convenience they enjoy by now being able to drive right inside the service department and hand their keys off to one of our superior service team members. At Burritt Motors, it’s all about making our customers comfortable and making sure they enjoy their experience with us.”
The expansion will increase the number of employees from 37 to approximately 50 over the next three years, which will enable the dealership to handle up to 250 sales per month. “We’re also grateful to Operation Oswego County, the Oswego County Industrial Development Agency, and PathFinder Bank for their financing assistance that helped us make this dream come true,” Chris Burritt said.
“The project gives us 30% more space for a total of 28,000 sq. ft. This includes our shiny new and expanded show room, new customer lounge, new service area with seven more service bays and vehicle photo gallery to take a virtual test drive on our web site, and new administrative offices—all with year-round temperature control. Completing this project gives us even better resources to bring to our customers to both extend the lives of their cars and to make their time with us an even more positive experience.
“Our new drive-in service department will be a welcome comfort both during the onset of winter and the dog days of summer. Once inside, they can check out the new vehicles on display in the re-designed, modern sales area, or settle in to our customer lounge. Once there, they will enjoy a fireplace, air-conditioning, computer workstations and Wi-Fi, a new coffee bar, couches, flat screen televisions, and a monitor showing the status of their vehicle’s service. We also added a five-bay vehicle-detailing center with a menu of services for our customers to keep their cars and trucks looking like new.
“In August, the dealership completed the installation of 200 solar panels on the roof that generate 255 watts each. This covers more than 30% of our energy usage. On a sunny day, however, solar power will cover nearly 100% of our energy needs. The system has been in operation since the end of August and we’ve already begun to benefit from it.”
Rich Burritt explained that dealership sales have grown since 2007 from approximately 50 vehicles sales per month to well over 100. “With this expansion, we can accommodate up to 250 sales a month,” he said. “This growth is attributed to our auction-direct and below-market pricing that has resulted in sales for us throughout the Northeastern U.S. It’s been our experience that people will drive a fair distance for a great deal and good service.”
Burritt Motors’ history dates back to 1955 in Hannibal when Chris’ grandfather, Elmer O. Burritt, purchased a Chevrolet franchise that he operated until 1963.
To expand in a larger market, Chris’ father, Richard, purchased the assets of a Chevrolet dealership that had been located on Oswego’s East Third Street. About a year later, he built the present dealership on Rt. 104. The dealership celebrates its 57th anniversary this year and can be reached at (315) 343-8948, www.burrittmotors.com or www.themechanixgarage.com.
