OSWEGO, NY – In an effort to raise awareness of the availability of free cancer screenings and low-cost reproductive health care I would like to extend an invitation to florists throughout Oswego County to join us in our mission to improve wellness in our community by encouraging their customers to help spread the word to their loved ones, about the services and screenings available through Oswego County Opportunity’s Cancer Services Program Partnership and Health Education Program.
According to the American Cancer Society, in Oswego County 13 individuals are diagnosed with cancer every week and five individuals will lose their battle to cancer weekly.
The Cancer Services Program Partnership of Oswego County, which is funded by the NYS Department of Health and Susan G. Koman for the Cure, provides free cancer screenings including clinical breast exams, mammograms, pap/pelvic exams and colorectal cancer screenings to community members who are either under-insured or uninsured and 40 years of age and older.
Partnering with me in this initiative is OCO’s Health Education’s program.
This program is committed to connecting people from the community to the Family Planning (Reproductive/Sexual Health) Services offered at OCO health centers.
The services they offer men and women of all ages are high quality, confidential and encompass all aspects of an individual’s sexual health.
Many members of our community are unaware that they qualify for free or lower cost/sliding scale reproductive health care.
As a team, we are looking forward to working with Oswego County florists to promote the availability of our free cancer screenings and low-cost reproductive health care and the importance of receiving these screenings regularly.
Florists help people show how much they care about their friends and loved ones every day.
The emotional response to receiving flowers is a very positive thing.
We are looking to partner with florists so that we may share in that positive emotional experience and inform their customers about the tremendous benefits of having their annual health screenings on a regular basis.
OCO’s Cancer Services Program and Health Education Program will provide participating florists with free note cards to include with all floral arrangement deliveries, free posters for their shops promoting the services available through the OCO’s Cancer Services Program and Health Education Programs, as well as free pens, key chains, and nail files that they can distribute to their customers as they tell them about the programs.
I encourage all Oswego County florists to join us in our fight against cancer and partner with us to improve the quality of life and create stronger, more successful communities.
We do not want any man or woman delaying to complete their annual health screenings due to a lack of health insurance coverage.
Working together we can spread the word about these wonderful programs and improve the overall wellness of our community.
