Byron L. Rowlee, Sr., 86, of Volney, died Thursday at Oswego Hospital. A native of Volney, he was a life resident. Byron retired in 1993 as Volney Town Clerk serving from 1989 to 1993 and as Deputy Town Clerk from 1979 to 1989. He served as town historian for many years. Byron previously worked at Weco Graphics in Syracuse and Sealright Company, Fulton. He was a member of the Friends of History in Fulton, the Scriba Historical Society and had a keen interest in local and family history. Byron was the author of “View from Mt. Pleasant” published in The Valley News from 1979 to 1990.
He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Ella (Hammond) Rowlee in 2003. Surviving are his children, Virginia (Alton) Martin of Laurel, Maryland, Mary (Larry) Sutton of Oxford and Byron L. Rowlee, Jr. of Volney; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Volney. There will be no calling hours.
