Canal, Zoning, Funds and More on Committees’ Agendas

OSWEGO, NY – There is plenty of discussion on tap for tonight’s (Feb. 6) committee meetings.

At the Administrative Services Committee meeting, Fifth Ward Councilor John Gosek is seeking consideration from the Common Council to authorize the use of funds of the city of Oswego to support and sponsor the theatrical production of Clinton’s Ditch: The Story of the Building of the Erie Canal.

The request for Common Council action is twofold: 1) the need for public space and 2) funding to cover the production expenses.

The production is proposed to be held at the West Linear Park Veterans’ Stage over the course of two consecutive weekends, August 4-6 and August 11-13.

Production times would be 7 p.m. on the Fridays and Saturdays and a 2 p.m. matinee on the Sundays.

The production lasts approximately 90 minutes.

The budget for sponsoring this production is $8,000 and is proposed to be allocated from either A.19940.460 (Contingent), to A1010.440 (Common Council Contracted services).

Also on the agenda for the Planning and Development Committee meeting, Mayor Billy Barlow requested a discussion regarding rewriting the city Zoning Code and Fourth Ward Councilor Shawn Walker requested discussion regarding amending legislation to allow for the presence of food trucks in specific public space.

The Administrative Services Committee will also consider a request from Justin Rudgick, Community Development Director, to discuss the Special Events Guide and Application as well as discussion on the Route 48 Green Gateway Water Quality Improvement Project.

Mayor Barlow has requested discussion concerning a Fire Department transfer of funds and a discussion of Capital Expenditures (2017 – 2021).

The meetings will get under way at 6:30 in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
