OSWEGO – The Oswego Girls’ Hockey team dropped its opening contest at Canton Monday night 1-3.
Canton got goals in each period.
Oswego’s Ashley Finch was solid in net turning away 27 shots.
Oswego did not get on the board until the first minute of the third period.
While on power play, Abbey Yurkon fed Julia Roman at the point, Roman skated in and fired a shot that got through to make it 1-2.
Monica Cahill was perfectly set up in front to screen Canton net-minder Jenny Primeau (20 saves).
Coach Mark Fierro was happy with the girls’ effort, but concerned that the Bucs were unable to generate more offense.
“We skated hard, but our passing and attempted finishing was a bit off tonight. I thought we should have had at least three of four goals tonight, but it wasn’t to be,” he said.
The Lady Bucs return to action on Wednesday morning – hosting last year’s Section X Champion, Salmon River.
Game time is 11 a.m. at the Crisafulli Rink.
