OSWEGO – Director Rick Sivers has been busy rehearsing the cast of the upcoming Oswego Players’ production of Oswegonian Lottie Blair Parker’s “Way Down East.”
The cast, composed of both seasoned veterans of the stage in the Frances Marion Brown Theater and newcomers has been hard at work bringing the characters of the 1898 comedy melodrama to life.
The play opens on May 6.
“Way Down East” takes place in New England and revolves around the lives of Squire Bartlett and his family.
Everyone in the family seems happy, but the arrival of a stranger, Anna Moore, upsets all the plans and assumptions about the future.
The Squire’s son, David, falls in love with the young Anna, however, when her past is revealed everything about her staying with the family is in doubt and the Squire forces the young girl out of the house and into a winter blizzard.
In the end good and righteous behavior wins out.
The serious nature of the play is balanced by heavy doses of comedy making for a fun evening of entertainment.
