The Oswego County Health Department offers a variety of services to all residents of Oswego County, including preventive health services, certified hospice, and a maternal and child health program.
On April 28 and 29, firehouses across the state will open their doors to the public to increase membership in the volunteer fire service. This is the eighth year of the event which is a cornerstone of FASNY’s ongoing recruitment campaign.
Lena Bertone, the author of two books and currently a writing professor at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, will visit the Auburn Campus on April 30 and the Fulton Campus on May 2 after students in the Cayuga Creative Writing Club asked her to visit the college. Events both days are open to the public.
Assemblyman Will Barclay and Oswego Mayor, Billy Barlow will host an American Red Cross blood drive on May 11 at the Oswego Elks Lodge, 132 W. The Hannibal Historical Society will host a Historic Cemetery Walk at the Hannibal Village Cemetery. It will take place on May 19 between 1 and 2:30 p.m.
Having that self-control in their classrooms, special areas and hallways throughout the month of April earned them a certificate of recognition and thunderous applause as each of them was called to the front of the all-purpose room.
The Planning Committee for Senior Camp at Camp Hollis will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the conference room at the Oswego County Youth Bureau offices on Bunner Street. Senior Camp is a popular two-day retreat held twice each year at Camp Hollis located on the shores of Lake Ontario in Oswego Town.
Opposing forces strike a warlike pose in SUNY Oswego’s “Urinetown: The Musical,” entering its final weekend April 26 to 28. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and a concluding matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday.
SUNY Oswego professors Ampalavanar Nanthakumar of the mathematics department and Eric Schmitz of music have earned the 2018 President’s Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity. The award, which recognizes tenured faculty members’ continuous and outstanding contributions to their respective academic fields, will be presented to Nanthakumar and Schmitz during a recognition ceremony held during this fall’s Academic Affairs Retreat.
Students and faculty from SUNY Oswego’s “Children’s Literature and Film” and “Storytelling” classes will use their respective arts in a free presentation of children’s stories at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Oswego Public Library. This year’s stories, complete with animation, will include Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, Rudyard Kipling’s “Just So Stories” and Grimms’ fairy tales.
