Dozens of people and organizations have plenty of stuff – ready to cram it all into a school bus in support of the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s annual Stuff-A-Bus campaign. The United Way will have buses at eight convenient locations around the county on Aug. 10 so people can drop off their donations.
Several requests to use public space were sent to the full council for consideration. Among them is a parking plan that will assist developers in rehabilitating the former Cahill’s building and property.
In the city of Oswego too many city trees are being cut down in neighborhoods, not because they are diseased or a hazard, but because they’re in the way of someone wanting more parking spaces. Port City bars that receive a variance to the noise ordinance to host outdoor live entertainment will have to tone it down earlier. The Planning and Development Committee sent a recommendation to the full council Monday night that would restrict the hours local bars could allow outside bands to play.
The Oswego City Police Department wishes to announce the following overview of the events that took place in the city of Oswego during the weekend of Harborfest 2011 (Thursday July 28, 2011 – 5 p.m. to Sunday July 31, 2011 – 11 p.m.) as compared to Harborfest 2009 and 2010 (same time period).
Harborfest drew to a close on Sunday after four days of music, foods and various other activities filling up the streets of the Port City. Harborfest Executive Director Tom Van Schaack was pleased that the weather maintained favorable throughout the weekend. “There was good weather most of the week, except for a little rain on Friday morning. Otherwise, it was nice days for a change. We had nice weather Thursday and Friday night for the concerts and last night for the fireworks,” Van Schaack said.
The parade, from West Park to Breitbeck, drew several hundred participants, from infants to teen-agers. Many of them were dressed in English attire, highlighting the cultural component of the 2011 festival – “England.” “The children’s parade, that’s what makes Harborfest. It’s all about the children and families,” said Harborfest Board of Directors President John Scardella.
