School District Votes To Appeal Dismissal Of Nuke Plant Pact Challenge

Board members approved  a decision to appeal the state Supreme Court ruling last month that dismissed the district’s petition challenging the tax agreement with Nine Mile Point Unit I. The board also approved the proposed budget for 2011-2012. The budget proposal is $74, 744,748 and contains a  zero percent tax levy increase.

Malone Sentenced To 10 Years In Prison

Joyce Malone will spend the next 10 years behind bars. The Oswego Town woman was sentenced this morning (April 12) in Oswego County Court. Oswego County Judge Walt Hafner also sentenced her to five years of probation upon her release from state prison. Malone, 70, of Tug Hill Road in Oswego Town, was convicted in January of first-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of her husband, Ralph.

Oswego May Change Street’s Name

During the public session at Monday’s council meeting, it was proposed to change the name of a certain street on the east side to Onondaga. It would connect Mohawk, Oneida, Cayuga and Seneca streets, in honor of the members of the Iroquois Nation, according to the speaker. It is a simple idea that makes sense, the council president said. Aldermen took no action on the proposal Monday.

Oswego Police Bust Indoor Marihuana Grow

At approximately 10:47 a.m. on April 8, officers of the Oswego City Police Department were dispatched to 229 Munn St. for a reported domestic incident in progress.  Upon arrival at the residence, responding officers detected a strong odor, consistent with that of marihuana. The subsequent investigation and search resulted in the discovery of an indoor marihuana grow located within the basement of the residence.

In 2010, The Food Bank of CNY reported it provided more than 7.8 million meals to local residents residing in 11 counties in Central and Northern New York. Its goal is to eliminate hunger through food distribution, education and advocacy with the help of members from the community. The recent hard economic times have made that mission more difficult.
