New York Department Of State Reminds Businesses Of New Law To Protect Consumers From Potential Gift Card Scams

New York Secretary of State Robert J. Rodriguez today reminded businesses of a new law to protect consumers from potential gift card scams. Effective June 20, 2023, all businesses selling gift cards must display a notice at or near where any gift card or gift certificate is displayed or sold to caution consumers about gift card fraud. Requesting gift cards as payment has become increasingly popular with scammers as funds are nearly impossible to trace. According to the Federal Trade Commission in 2022, nearly 65,000 consumers filed a complaint related to gift card scams, equating to a total loss of $228.3 million. USDA Extends Application Deadline For Revenue Loss Programs To July 14

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is extending the deadline for the Emergency Relief Program (ERP) Phase Two and Pandemic Assistance Revenue Program (PARP) to July 14, 2023, to give producers more time to apply for assistance. The original deadline was June 2.

EPA Funding To Provide New All-Electric Buses To Six School Districts NY State

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) is transforming how children get to school, accelerating the transition to zero-emission vehicles, and producing cleaner air for our communities. That is the message delivered today by EPA Regional Administrator Lisa F. Garcia in Saratoga Springs. In the last round of the Clean School Bus Rebate Program, EPA funded six projects through Leonard Bus Sales, Inc. totaling $6.625 million available to six school districts across New York State, allowing the purchase of 17 new electric school buses?to take the streets.

Gas Prices Maintain Holiday Weekend Bump

Today’s national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.58, four cents higher than last Monday. One year ago, the price was $4.62. The New York State average is $3.71, up five cents since last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $4.93. AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

Reality Check Hosts World No Tobacco Day Clean-up In Oswego

World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) is recognized every year on May 31. It’s a day of awareness calling attention to the harmful impact tobacco use has had on our communities. For WNTD this year, Tobacco-Free CNY, Oswego Middle School Reality Check and Oswego Prevention Coalition’s YC3 group will be partnering to conduct a cigarette butt cleanup.
