OSWEGO, NY – Catherine L. (Katie) Maniccia, 86, a resident of Oswego, passed away Wednesday May 20, 2015, at St. Luke Health Services.
Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mabel (Widrig) Galvin.
Katie attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Oswego High School and St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1950.
She dutifully served as a Registered Nurse for 42 years, first at Oswego Hospital and later at St. Luke Health Services, where she retired as supervisor of nursing.
Katie loved to travel.
She covered many miles by bus with her sisters, Laura and Mary and a host of other friends.
Despite all the places in the United States she visited, perhaps her favorite place on earth was her home parish of St. Mary’s, especially when it was fully decorated during the holiday season.
She also spent countless hours in the bleachers at sporting events enthusiastically cheering for her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Surviving Katie are her sons Tim (Marjorie) Maniccia of Slingerlands and Dan (Cathleen) of Oswego; as well as her grandchildren Caroline, Julia, Danny and Meghan. She is also survived by dozens of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Katie was predeceased by her husband, Orlando “Mousey” Maniccia, in 1980; and by her siblings, Edward Galvin, Mary Galvin and Laura Galvin.
Services will be held at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Calling hours will be conducted Friday from 4 – 6 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
