FULTON, NY – With the holiday season fast approaching, the Emergency Assistance Program at Catholic Charities of Oswego County is currently planning their annual distribution of Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday meals.
Last year more than 400 families enjoyed a healthy holiday feast thanks to the efforts of Catholic Charities.
Emergency Services Program Director, Helen Hoefer anticipates an even greater demand this year.
“With the amount of people we are serving during our regular food distributions and at our food pantry, we may very well exceed the number of applications we received last year. We have made some changes to the program this year that will hopefully allow us to meet the requests we receive. Our goal is to have as many people as possible enjoying a festive holiday meal,” she said.
Applications for Thanksgiving meals are being accepted Oct. 18 through Nov. 12.
Applications for Christmas meals will be accepted Oct. 25 through Nov. 30.
Thanksgiving meals will be distributed on Nov. 22 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
Distribution of Christmas meals will be Dec. 20 and 21 at the same times.
Rather than being given baskets, recipients will be able to visit Catholic Charities’ Client Choice Food Pantry and select the items their family would like to have for their holiday meal.
“It’s a much more family friendly way to distribute the meals as they are able to choose their favorite foods for their holiday meal,” added Hoefer.
Those interested in applying must have proof of identity for everyone in the household as well as a piece of mail, dated within 30 days, with name and address for each adult in the household.
