FULTON, NY – Catholic Charities’ Nutrition Outreach & Education Program is living up to its name as the program is reaching out to the communities of Cleveland and Phoenix.
Established through the Nutrition Consortium of NYS, the Nutrition Outreach & Education Program, which is administered locally through Catholic Charities, aims to alleviate hunger for poor and near poor residents of New York State, by expanding the availability of, access to, and use of governmental feeding programs, through outreach, education and advocacy.
Program coordinator Angela Smith has been busy promoting healthier eating and working to increase use of the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by educating those in need about the benefits of the program and encouraging those eligible to enroll.
She is looking forward to expanding the reach of the program by adding satellite sites in Cleveland and Phoenix.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to visit these communities, increase their awareness of the benefits of this program, and make it even easier for those in need of food subsidy to be able to access this program.,†said Smith.
In addition to educating community members, Smith will also be able to pre-screen applicants for eligibility.
Smith will be available, by appointment, in Phoenix at the Discovery Day Care, 80 County Route 59, and the Cleveland Head Start site, 49-B State Route 49.
For more information or to make an appointment, call Smith at 598-3980 ext. 252 or 591-5246.
“I’m glad that we will be able to better serve residents in the southern and eastern part of the county and appreciative of Oswego County Opportunities’ offer to provide these locations for us,†added Smith.
