FULTON, NY – One of Catholic Charities most accessed community programs, the Step By Step Wellness Program, has undergone several changes to better serve its clients.
Currently located at Catholic Charities new location, inside the vacant St. Michael’s Church, at the corner of West Third and Beech streets, the Step By Step Wellness Program provides a variety of services to adults diagnosed with a mental illness.
“Since our move we have expanded our number of peer generalists and offer that service to more clients. Peer generalists promote wellness and provide person-entered recovery-services for clients through individual and group-based support. Additionally they serve as advocates for clients and help them to facilitate access to appropriate services and assist with communication between clients and other service providers who may help them achieve their goals,” explained Pam Peeling.
Using a wellness recovery model, Catholic Charities’ Step By Step Wellness Program provides services to adults diagnosed with a mental illness.
Through various programming, Step By Step supports clients with their recovery, promotes wellness, and combats the stigma of mental illness.
Various program offerings help individuals increase their self-esteem, establish group affiliations, and maintain independence in the community.
Currently Step By Step serves more than 100 clients, with 40 to 50 individuals visiting each week and many more who attend the various support groups and special presentations.
“The Step By Step program fills a definite need in our community,” said Peeling. “The program provides clients with a place to go where they are welcomed and appreciated. This program is for them, they get to meet new friends, share their experiences and work together to reach their individual goals.”
The Step By Step Wellness Program is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Peer generalists are available Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
To serve clients in the northern part of Oswego County, the Step By Step Wellness program is available weekly on Mondays from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Christ Our Light Church, 23 Niagara St., in Pulaski.
Workshops and other programs are open to all clients and transportation is available to both the Pulaski and Fulton sites.
