Cayuga CC Faculty Member Selected as On Course Ambassador of the Year

In recognition of her work to make significant improvements to students’ academic success and retention, Nicole Adsitt, developmental studies coordinator at Cayuga Community College, was selected as the 2012 On Course Ambassador of the Year.

The acknowledgment honors Adsitt’s role in organizing the New York State Summit: Best Practices for College Success, which was held at the College’s Auburn campus in October. The one-day event was a professional development opportunity for educators throughout the state to learn more about On Course, to network with colleagues, and to their share successes, challenges, and resources.

“It’s been wonderful to work with so many like-minded people who are committed to student success,” Adsitt said. “There’s a real sense of community, connectedness, and collaboration among us, and the chance to share so many great ideas for helping our students. Receiving this honor is just icing on the cake!”

Dr. Skip Downing, founder of the On Course organization, praised Adsitt’s collegiality and willingness to share best practices in student retention. In a letter to CCC president Dr. Daniel Larson he further noted, “Congratulations on having such a dedicated educator to serve your students.”

On Course is a national organization that serves college and university educators who seek innovative ways to help students achieve greater academic success and retention. There are more than 1,600 On Course ambassadors at colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, and beyond. The role of the ambassadors is to introduce their students and colleagues to the organization’s principles and practices for academic success, including a focus on self-awareness, lifelong learning, and emotional intelligence, thereby helping to increase student learning, success, and retention.
