In support of Oswego County Earth Week and the Oswego County Environmental Management Council students from Cayuga Community College’s Fulton Campus Biology 101 class, accompanied by instructor Jean Siracusa, assisted Dick and Naneen Drosse in a clean-up around the Great Bear area.
At total of 23 bags of litter, one tire, several large metal signs and one broken weed trimmer were collected and properly disposed of.
Students cleaned an area approximately equal to one mile on the Route 57 stretch.
Most of the litter was non-returnable bottles and fast food cups/containers and wrappers.
A common question posed by the students was ‘why do people litter’?
Siracusa will use this question as a part of the continued studies in her Essentials of Biology and Conservation of Natural Resources classes.
