FULTON – The CNY Arts Center is hosting a wonderful display of art from Linda Flynn, a local artist with a unique style and medium at 11 River Glen Drive on the Cayuga College campus in Fulton.
The Arts Center will be open throughout the college semester break on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with the exception of Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Flynn has been drawing and painting for most of her life.
She graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BA-Studio Art degree and worked as a graphic artist for eleven years before making a career change to the electronic engineering field.
She is now back doing her art as a second job.
Visitors will be welcomed to her colorful world of alcohol ink painting.
She paints with alcohol ink on ceramic tile and yupo paper.
Alcohol inks are dye based ink and they are bright, luminous and spontaneous.
Painting with these inks allows your inner creativity to flow in a fluid and organic way.
She can create more spontaneously and lets the ink flow guide her through many compositions.
Her paintings are mostly images from nature and she works from many reference photos and sometimes combining more than one for a composition.
Colors are the main focus of the paintings.
Then the colors chosen are more from an emotional response rather than a representational desire.
Her work encompasses uncomplicated imagery, bright colors and flowing landscapes.
She said, “Painting with these inks has introduced a new freedom in my art that I have never felt before. I create more spontaneously and let the ink flow guide me through many compositions.”
Her work is on display at the CNY Art Center at the River Glenn Plaza in Fulton for the month of December.
