All of the students wore red, white and blue shirts, streamers and hats. Some students wore Boy and Girl Scout uniforms and were able to come up on stage for the Pledge of Allegiance and the folding of the flag.

Commander Sean Stevenson spoke about the meaning of each fold of the flag while Legion Chaplin Reverend Michael Thesier spoke about what the flag symbolizes.

One class led the school in the singing of “You’re a Grand Ole Flag.” All 355 Millard Hawk students shook the hands of the legionnaires while they marched and sang to patriotic music.

Last year, the American Legion Post 915 awarded Principal Lorraine Malecki and Millard Hawk Primary School with a Citation of Appreciation for outstanding citizenship for the appreciation and display of the American Flag.

The American Legion Post 915 attendees this year were: Legion Chaplin Reverend Michael Thesier, Finance Officer Charles Palmer and his wife Linda Palmer, Legionnaire and Past Commander Charles Kleingardener, Legionnaire and Past Commander Ed Cook, First Vice Commander Eileen Arnold and Commander Sean Stevenson.
