Starting Jan 31, The Jay Trisolino Poetry contest begins taking submissions (and will continue taking them until March 7) for a contest seeking the best, most original poetry in the region.
Through this contest, The Utica Writers Club honors a long-time member of the club and all the other great poets in the NY with recognition and monetary prizes.
An open to the public reception will be held at 7 p.m. on May 20 at the Kirkland Library to celebrating all the participants, and read some of the winning poems.
Entries will be sorted into two categories
Seasoned Poets (For Writers 18 and older)
Student Poets (For writers 17 and under)
The entry fee for Seasoned Poets will be $5 per poem.
The entry fee for Students Poets will be $2 per poem

A poet may submit only two poems (with an entry fee for each poem). Each poem must be 1,000 words or less.
Awards will be:
$100 for First place
$75 for Second place
An additional $25 prize will be awarded for the most original topic of a poem, and a minimum of two Honorable mention awards in each category will also be presented.
Along with the cash awards first and second place prizewinners also receive free membership to the club for the 2015-2016 season.
All other poets who receive any kind of award receive 50% off their first year’s membership.
Authors retain all rights to their poems.
