HANNIBAL – Charles H. Burghart, 79, of Hannibal, NY passed away after a brief illness in Florida on Monday February 20, 2017.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Carol Tihy Burghart; daughters, Jean (Kenneth) Ford of Hannibal and Susan (Christopher) Nevins of Groton; grandchildren, Jessica (Brian) Vanella, Kevin Ford, Samantha Adams, Cameron Adams and Tristan Nevins; sister, Carol (Charles) Lindo of Sterling; brothers, Harold (Louise) Burghart of Arlington, Va., and Robert (Kate) Burghart of Sterling; several nieces, nephews and close brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, Fay and Clara Piquigney Burghart of Sterling.
Born and raised in Sterling, Charles lived most of his life in Sterling until moving to Hannibal in recent years and spent winters in Palmetto, Fla.
Charles served in the US Army, worked at Carrier before working for the Department of Motor Vehicles where he retired after a 30-year career.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially his grandchildren.
In his earlier years, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and fishing.
His quiet, gentle demeanor and smile will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday, March 22, from 3-6 p.m. at the Hannibal Town Municipal Building, 824 County Route 34.
