OSWEGO, NY – “Doing it Our Way” Spring Soccer clinic, part of a Parents of Special Children program and run by group of Oswego student athletes recently wrapped up another season of soccer fun for all who participated.
The six-week series of clinics and games was attended by nearly 40 children of all ages and abilities who participated in weekly “fun” games of soccer with everyone scoring big on the field.
“Having the commitment of many volunteers each week made it really fun for the kids who showed up to experience soccer,” said Claudia Chetney, who originally started the program three years ago as a Girl Scout Silver Award Project. “The volunteers always bring energy, fun and friendship to the game of soccer which really made it a positive experience for everyone.”
Support from the Oswego Youth Soccer Association for the use of the fields each week, the Fitzgibbons Agency who sponsored this season’s soccer medals, and Cam’s Pizzeria who provided the end of year pizza dinner all contributed to the another successful season.
The “Doing it Our Way” program was developed to allow special needs individuals to participate in sports and other organized activities.
“Doing it Our Way” also provides opportunities for kids of all ages and abilities to play basketball, baseball, dance and cheerlead.
