OSWEGO, NY – Harborfest was relatively quiet and modestly participated this year.
There were not as many vendors as previous years. This may have led to this year’s low turnout.
Streets usually jam-packed with locals and travelers alike, were only speckled with people.
This once overwhelming festival has turned into a quaint hometown harbor fair.
And thanks to the many law enforcement agencies, Harborfest this year had a renewed family feeling.
Where were all of the usual Harborfesters?
Syracuse’s jazz and wine festival and craft fair might have contributed to the reduced crowds.
Though, less crowds seems to have lead to more enjoyment for festival-goers.
And of course, the fireworks remained the highlight for festival attendees, drawing in the usual crowd.
The fireworks were even brought more into the modern world this year by the availability of the Fireworks by Grucci app, which allowed people to listen to the music accompanying the fireworks on their iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Harborfest itself does not yet have its own app. Perhaps it will in the future.
Lately, locals have been replacing complaints about “Harbor Mess” with discussion of Harborfest’s future.
Does Harborfest have a future? Perhaps in this one instance, history will not repeat itself.
