OSWEGO, NY – Claude S. Wells, 88, a resident of East Syracuse, passed away on Thursday July 11, 2013, at St.Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.
Born in Syracuse, he was the son of the late Roy and Lucy (Storing) Wells and was a graduate of Solvay High School.
He was employed with Onondaga Heating for more than 30 years, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Wells was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Force.
He enjoyed gardening, reading, classical music, drawing and working with metal.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, the former Beatrice Menninger; a son Bruce (Joyce) Wells of Queens; two daughters, Jill (Kurt) Phaneuf of Oswego and Vicki (Lee) Wixson of Chittenango; two grandchildren, Justin and Ashley; and two great -grandchildren, Alexis and Isaak.
A paterfamilias in the best sense of that term, Claude was a beacon of stability, intelligence, dignity, pragmatism, fairness, patience and decency in his family.
Husband, dad, cigar-smoker, factotum, raconteur, World War II veteran, lover of classic movies, Claude was the role model and father-figure all children dream of having and deserve.
It was a blessing and privilege to know him, to learn from him and to love him.
