CNY Arts Center announces May Student Artist of the Month

FULTON, NY – From high school to college, this senior artist has big plans. Abigail Shatrau is now 18 and almost ready to go out in the world, but life started out a bit different from what her plans are.

Born and raised in Fulton, Abigail has grown from crazy noodle art, glitter and glue, Lego building, paper people building and much more to a wonderful artist.

“I knew from a young age that creativeness was a part of me,” she said.

This passion has grown with her and continues to inspire her to thrive in her art.

“For me, art is a way to relax and unwind but also a way to express myself and maybe even a way to motivate and encourage others,” she said.

Throughout high school she has worked with plenty of media including acrylics, watercolors, markers and colored pencils.

Acrylics were her top medium through the first few years but as she has progressed, her focus has shifted towards fashion and her senior year has revolved around perfecting fashion figures as her art.

Shatrau has the next few years of her life all mapped out, after graduation she plans to attend SUNY Oneonta, and to work in a 3-7 program with the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

During her last year in New York City she plans to finish a major in fashion marketing/management and to pursue her career in art with passion and dream job.

From what we can see of her artwork, she is well on her way to getting what she wants out of life and a career.

A dream and passion to get there are the most important things to carrying out that goal.  Good luck to Abigail, and we look forward to hearing great things from her.

During the month of May, her work is on display at the Arts in the Heart Gallery in Fulton at 47 S. First St.

Come take a look at her artwork and many others as the spring months bring out new artwork and artists to see.

Join us for TH3 on May 15, happy hour from 5-8 p.m. at the gallery.
