CNY Arts Center Announces Open Call for Performing Artists

CNY Arts Center announces an open call to performing artists and all those interested in pursuing theater. The Arts Center will cast plays and musicals being planned for the coming months. Open Call sign-ups will be held Thursday, Feb 2nd from 6-8pm and Saturday, Feb 4th from noon to 3pm at First United Church,33 S. Third St. Fulton.

“We’re taking a positive stand on being in a facility by March 1st although nothing is confirmed yet,” said Nancy Fox, President and Theater Director. “We want to be ready with a production in the first weeks of opening and it takes 4-6 weeks to prepare a musical. In starting this process now we’re inviting all those interested in theater arts to attend an open call – a sign-up session for casting throughout the season.

“We’ve chosen a slate of productions for the 2012 season and now we must recruit actors, musicians, singers, dancers and technical people to participate, all ages, all skill levels. We expect to cast 4 major productions that will give a good cross sample of the work audiences can expect to enjoy at CNY Arts Center. Each of these four productions is ambitious but contains a thru line that symbolizes the journey CNY Arts Center is undergoing to accomplish this dream. They also offer some wonderful roles for local actors who want to share their talent.”

CNY Arts Center will open with GODSPELL in recognition of the 40th anniversary of the popular musical, followed by MIRACLE WORKER, the story of Helen Keller. A large family musical version of POLLYANNA will premiere in late summer and a stage adaptation of Corrie Ten Boom’s story, THE HIDING PLACE will premiere in the fall. Several titles for smaller plays are also being considered.

“It’s time to get this aspect of the Arts Center up and running,” Fox continues. “We have begun a writing program and teachers of the fine arts are ready to hold classes and workshops as soon as we have a place. Drama, dance and music will be vital components of the new facility with its box office draw and the regular audience base we expect to establish.

“We will create a Senior Theater company as well as a vibrant children’s theater. That’s why all ages are invited to attend this open call. Now is the time to draw out those performing artists, and would-be performers, and invite them to meet with us.”
