The CNY Arts Center has announced the latest recipient of its volunteer recognition award. The Arts Center, which serves Fulton and its surrounding communities, strives to engage people of all ages with all arts, and began the volunteer awards program to acknowledge the work of those who contribute to the center’s mission and goals.
“Volunteers are truly the heart and soul of our organization,” said Alice Lamb, program coordinator and volunteer recognition coordinator for the center. “They help in many ways and truly make our classes and programs come alive.”
The Volunteer of the Month for May is Diane Sokolowski. Diane is the center’s culinary arts coordinator and, in this position, she develops programming, workshops and demonstrations of her culinary creations.
Diane is quick to volunteer for any event that needs desserts: every open house, every book launch and every celebration.
“We certainly have come to rely on Diane’s expertise with hospitality and receptions,” said Nancy Fox, the center’s director. “She also keeps an eye out for opportunities to promote the Arts Center and recently orchestrated a collaboration between the center and the Fulton Lions Club to sponsor our latest play, Helen Keller. The Lions Club made a significant contribution to our Center and Diane was instrumental in bringing that about.”
Diane is active beyond her volunteer work at CNY Arts: She runs her own baking business, Treat Me Sweet, and is the current co-chair of the Fulton Lions Club.
Diane also is a writer and is currently working on a memoir of owning and operating a local bed and breakfast.
CNY Arts Center is proud to honor Sokolowski as its May Volunteer of the Month.
The center’s home is at the State Street Methodist Church, located at 357 State St., Fulton.
