CNY Arts Center Plans Double Fun at Arty Camp

FULTON, NY – CNY Arts Center is planning double the fun with summer arts programming for children at two locations including the new Center facility at 11 River Glen Drive on the Cayuga Community College campus and at the Studio, the former downtown Art Gallery location at 47 S. First St across from the gazebo.

Fantasy Art, Cultural Art, Exploring Photography, and other Studio Art classes, Ballet, Lyrical, Jazz and Irish Dancing, and three weeks of Theatre, Glee Club and Summer Date Nights for Parents and kids doing fun art projects are all in the works for students ages 7 and up.

With two locations for Arty Camp and extended programming, director Alice Lamb has planned twice as much fun with weekly themes for art classes divided into age groups at the downtown location, formerly Arts in the heart Gallery.

Daily for six weeks Arty Camp will offer a different art class, guest teachers, and take home projects each week from 9 a.m. to noon. Free lunch and free afternoon art projects will also be offered from noon to 2 p.m. for any child wishing to attend at the studio.

Culinary class will be offered every Tuesday morning and older students will have the opportunity to work with famed artist Don Gillespie during the final week of camp which runs July 13 through August 21.

With the stage in a separate location, at the new Center on River Glen Drive at CCC, Dance Camp with returning instructor Jennica Vehrs will offer ballet and lyrical dance style one week and a week devoted solely to jazz.

Irish dancing will give students an introduction to Step Dancing and other Irish dance activities.

These classes are taught by instructors from Kinlough Academy who performed at this year’s Snow Day.

Dance Camp runs July 13 through 31 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Theatre Camp this year will work on a specific play, title to be announced soon.

Young Actors will learn lines and rehearse to present the play to parents at a final showcase celebrating the entire summer of art fun at Arty Camp.

Theatre Camp runs 9 a.m. to noon, August 3 through 21.

Students are asked to attend all three weeks and all classes require pre-registration.

Glee Club kicks off afternoon summer fun led by nationally known folk musician Gina Holsopple.

This group promises musical fun singing popular songs and a final performance showcase for family and friends at the close of a three-week session.

Glee Club will run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. July 6, 8, 13, 15, 20 and 22 for ages 8 and up.

Students are expected to attend all six classes to form a strong glee club which promises to be a lot of fun under the direction of this award-winning music director.

This class will meet at the Center on River Glen Drive.

Arty Date Night for parents and kids ages 5-12 years old on Tuesday nights is another great new feature this summer.

Once a week for three weeks, kids and their grownup will create, side-by-side, a different crafty project including a summer keepsake box, river art, a collage and more.

Two three-week sessions will be offered starting July 15 and adults can attend the class with more than one child but are asked to register for all three date nights in any one session.

Diana Bukowski teaches this wonderful series along with a Polymer Clay S’Mores class running twice, Tuesday and Wednesdays from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., July 28, 29, and August 25 and 26 for ages 10 and up with a maximum of 10 students.

These classes will be held at the studio downtown, 47 S. First St., across from the gazebo.

With all these great art opportunities and a full performance season at the center from Dessert Theatre to Shakespeare, CNY Arts Center delivers arty fun for everyone this summer.
