With their Charter Year drawing to a close, CNY Arts Center has begun making plans for 2012 leading off the year with a winter Arts Snow Day. The event is scheduled for January 21 from 10am to 2pm, with a “Blizzard Backup” date of Jan. 28th and will be held at Fulton Alliance Church on Rte 48S.
“With the holidays about to consume everyone’s attention, we wanted to get the word out early to save the date for a day of family fun activities indoors and out. We want this to become an annual community event everyone can eagerly look forward to and plan for,” said Kiley Casper, organizer of the event.
A children’s carnival, face painting and art projects will lead off the fun for young ones while a Snow Sculpture/Snowman Contest for those who can brave the cold will award $50 cash prizes for the winning sculpture in each of four categories. Concessions will offer hot drinks and other goodies along with soup and chili while local entertainment will keep the atmosphere lively. Celebrity storytellers will read to children and families throughout the day and the public will enjoy an art exhibit from local artists.
Snow Sculpture teams of five will compete in one of four different groups: ages 12 & under, ages 12-20, ages 21 & up, and Family units. At least 3 of the 5 team members must meet the age criteria. “We want this Snow Sculpture Contest to inspire a friendly rivalry between schools, clubs, groups, businesses, and even families,” Casper continued. “We will be recruiting judges for the contest from key members of the community and really hope everyone sees this as a day to come together as a community and just have fun,”
General Admission is free. Snow sculpture contest details and registration forms are available at www.CNYArtsCenter.com.
