According to Planning Committee chairperson John Zanewych, the pumpkin pie contest is reflection on the festival’s focus on all things pumpkin.

“The CNY Great Pumpkin Festival is a wonderful family event and a great competition for our pumpkin growers, but why limit the spirit of competition to just the growers?  The Great Pumpkin Pie Contest will give community members the opportunity for some friendly competition as well.  From Pulaski to Phoenix, from Hannibal to Central Square and all points in between, if you live in Oswego County you’re invited to compete for the blue ribbon for Best Tasting Pumpkin Pie in Oswego County,” said Zanewych.

All entries for the Great Pumpkin Pie Contest must be submitted to the Chamber of Commerce booth at the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival beginning at 11 a.m. October 5.

The first, second and third Prize ribbons will be awarded at 3 p.m.

In addition to the Great Pumpkin Pie Contest Zanewych said that the planning committee would be announcing several other new events as the festival approaches.

“We have some exciting ideas that will make this year’s CNY Great Pumpkin Festival the best ever,” Zanewych said.

Sponsored by the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce and the city of Oswego, the CNY Great Pumpkin Fest will be held October 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and October 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the festival will fill Oswego’s Washington Square Park with crafters, fresh from the farm produce, food vendors, music, and games and rides for children of all ages.

The Great Pumpkin Weigh-In will take place on October 4 beginning at 10 a.m. The giant pumpkins will be on display at the CNY Great Pumpkin Festival Saturday only.
