‘Collage Concert’ to unleash musical kaleidoscope at SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO — The SUNY Oswego music department’s annual “Collage Concert,” a showcase of talented students and faculty on Saturday, March 5, will juxtapose sound, light, and a cutting-edge sensibility.

The multi-ensemble performance, designed to give student musicians a chance to cultivate their experience on stage, will begin at 4 p.m. at Waterman Theatre of Tyler Hall.

The stage will be divided into three sections, and a spotlight will focus on one performance at a time. As soon as the last note resonates from one act, a quick lighting shift will illuminate the next one without delay.

Mixing genres, this eclectic show highlights the diversity of the SUNY Oswego music program. The back-to-back groups will display great variation, setting the intimate techniques of soloists against the power of large groups.

Among the students appearing March 5 will be pianist Evangeline Canfield (not to be confused with her identical twin, Elizabeth Canfield, who will be performing a piano piece of her own), the vocal talents of Nathan Keep and Tim Lanigan, and Christine Magruder on clarinet.

Large groups will include the College-Community Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Wind Symphony, State Singers, Latin Jazz Ensemble and College Choir .

Faculty performers at “Collage” will prove just as varied, featuring the Oswego Jazz Project, as well as soprano Lisa Kisselstein, flutist Kris Jorgensen, clarinetist Trevor Jorgesnen and pianist Rob Auler.

The concert also will help raise awareness for the music department’s scholarships for diverse student talent and the continuation of their future opportunities.

Tickets for the performance are $10 ($5 for SUNY Oswego students and seniors age 60 and over). To purchase tickets, visit any of SUNY Oswego’s box office locations, go online at http://tickets.oswego.edu, or call (315) 312-2141.

Parking is free on evenings and weekends for those attending the event. Persons with disabilities needing assistance should call the Tyler Box Office at 312-2141.
