2016 Syracuse Airshow

As we remember the life of Marine Capt. Jeff Kuss at the opening ceremonies of the Syracuse Airshow, it takes me back to when I was young and would spend many summer days at airshows across New York  in the 70’s and 80’s with my father. I always looked forward to seeing the WWII aircraft displays, climbing up the ladder and seeing the cockpits. My favorite aircraft were always the P-51 fighter, the A-10 and F-4 Phantom. Nothing was more exciting than sitting in the cockpit of the F-4 Phantom as a young child and getting the chance to walk around all the aircraft on display.

I was always interested in flying, military aircraft and the history of flight. The more Airshows my father and I attended the more interested in airplanes I became.

My father received his private pilot’s license when I was 12. I loved the weekends he and I would climb into the small aircraft and fly across the State.

This weekend brought me back to those times. Once again I felt like a young boy watching the P-51 Mustang and B-25 Mitchell fly overhead. The excitement of an F-16 or F-18 blasting across the airport loud and fast, performing acrobatics and showing how great The United States Military really is.

Although the weather this weekend was not the best, it didn’t stop 45,000 people from coming out and seeing the amazing events and displays of  aeronautic beauty at The 2016 Syracuse Air Show. Through the rain, clouds and strong winds the show went on.
