A Trolley Ride through Oswego History

OSWEGO – On a recent afternoon, residents of Bishop’s Commons and St. Francis Commons boarded an old fashioned trolley for a tour of sites of historical significance in and around the Oswego area.

Local historian Justin White joined the passengers and provided unique insights into the various points of interest on a journey, as the trolley made its way from one side of the city, across the river, to the other.

Stops included locations you would expect, like Fort Ontario, but included others like the Oswego Speedway, where the trolley made a “hot lap” on the track, the Safe Haven Museum, the Oswego County Courthouse, the Richardson-Bates House, Stone’s Candy Store, the SUNY Oswego campus, and finished up at “the Loop” for an ice cream at Bev’s Dairy Treat.
