OSWEGO, NY – On April 21, AAA Western and Central New York Assistant Vice President John Sansone, presented Oswego Mayor Tom Gillen, Oswego Police Chief Tory DeCaire and Oswego Police Lieutenant Charles Searor with their first Platinum Award for their success in the in AAA’s Community Traffic Safety Program.

The city of Oswego is one of only 11 communities in New York State to receive Platinum honors.
The AAA awards for traffic safety progress from Honorable Mention to Bronze, Silver, Gold, and the highest level, Platinum.
Platinum Awards, are given to communities that not only demonstrate outstanding success in addressing local traffic safety issues, but show a clear trend of improvement over five years and/or provide data that is substantially better that the statewide data for communities of similar size.
AAA’s Community Traffic Safety Program is an awards and recognition program for communities of all sizes nationwide that identify and address their local traffic safety issues.
The program considers basic crash statistics, presence of a traffic safety leadership group, projects, and their effectiveness.
“AAA applauds Oswego for advancing the cause of traffic safety, as evidenced by their progression from a Gold to Platinum –level award,” said Sansone. “We are honored to recognize this community’s efforts and leadership.”
