First graders at Lura M. Sharp Elementary School received a lesson in geography, generosity, culture and compassion during a recent performance by the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse.

Students were delighted throughout “The Golden Goose” performance, which transported them to a German village and offered them moral lessons throughout the journey.
The first graders watched – and even took the stage – as the Pfeffer brothers trekked separately through the forest on a mission to chop wood.
Along the way, each brother encountered an injured, old man who asked for food and water, and each handled the situation differently.
The only brother who offered to help the man in distress was Hans and he was rewarded with fame, wealth and a Golden Goose.

For the Pulaski first graders, the play reinforced positive character traits and academic lessons as well.
They learned about German customs and culture, examined the different jobs that are needed to create a successful community, and learned about generosity and the importance of helping others.
