OSWEGO – Members of the Fulton Amateur Radio Club, in cooperation with The Oswego County Emergency Communicators, will participate in this year’s annual National Amateur Radio Field Day Exercises, on June 23-24 at Fort Ontario in Oswego.
They will operate from 2 p.m. on Saturday to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The public is cordially invited to visit the outdoor station and observe live operations.
During Field Day, Hams across America and Canada practice the science, skills and services that are unique to amateur radio, using an array of equipment and technology that are also used for public service and community outreach.
Field Day is conducted under the auspices of the ARRL (American Radio Relay League) and is held each year on the fourth weekend of June.
More than 35,000 radio amateurs gather with their clubs, groups or simply with friends to operate a global radio station from remote locations.
They deploy radio communications equipment to environments ranging from operations under tents in remote areas to operations inside Emergency Operations Centers.
Emergency and alternative power sources are utilized since electricity and other public infrastructures are often among the first to fail during a natural disaster or severe weather.
Throughout the year, amateur radio operators serve the community in both good times and bad, during community events, disaster response, and various community service programs.
