OSWEGO, NY – More than 75 people sampled the wonderful, healthy food at the AmeriCorps booth at the recent Oswego Farmers’ Market.
Oswego AmeriCorps mission is “to serve the county youth by providing mentoring, nutrition education, and fitness activities.”

As current volunteers of Oswego AmeriCorps, Allie Scorzelli and Rachel Verdoliva, were aiming to do just that.
With a few hours prep time they were able to bring samples of whole-wheat tuna noodle casserole, carrot-cake applesauce muffins, and three-bean salad.
Allie and Rachel were excited and nervous to sample their healthy recipes at the market.
They weren’t sure if their tailored recipes that cut out sugar or used whole wheat would be appealing to attendees.
They were pleased to see that the samples were well received and compliments were offered, even by those hesitant to try them.
One younger participant said, “I don’t like my mom’s tuna noodle casserole but I like this.”
This participant ended up coming back for three more samples.
Allie and Rachel were pleased with all of the positive feedback from the night.
They were amazed that within an hour all samples and recipe cards were gone.
Rachel said, “The night could not have gone any better.”
They also served these samples and recipes at the Parish Food Bank and will be serving samples and recipes at the Oswego Food Bank this month.
The food needed to make the samples was donated graciously by TOPS Market in Mexico.
