OSWEGO – Ancient Indian Science, a lecture by Professor Alok Kumar, will be presented on November 29 at 3:20 p.m. in Shineman Hall, room 175 at SUNY Oswego.
As part of the Institute for Global Engagement’s Year of India (https://www.oswego.edu/institute-for-global-engagement/events), Dr. Alok Kumar will present the lecture.
Drawing from his recently published book “Sciences of the Ancient Hindus,” Professor Kumar will highlight the many contributions of ancient Hindus to modern science and medicine, which include the invention of the base ten system and zero as a numeral, the system of medicine with the mind-body approach known as Ayurveda, knowledge of constellations, and many more.
Dr. Kumar is a Distinguished Teaching Professor of Physics at SUNY Oswego.
His has to his credit an eclectic record of contributions ranging from atomic and chemical physics to Science in the Medieval World and Science Education.
Dr. Kumar is the recipients of many prestigious awards including the President Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity or Research and the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
He is the author of some 70 publications in atomic physics, chemical physics, history of science, and science education.
