Celebrate Spring Break with Screen-Free Activities March 28 to April 4

OSWEGO COUNTY – Looking to enjoy a fun, educational spring break without traveling? Disconnect from electronic devices and re-connect with each other by participating in Screen-Free Week! From Saturday, March 28 to Saturday, April 4, organizations throughout Pulaski, Sandy Creek, Richland and Williamstown offer a variety of non-electronic activities for families to enjoy during the school break.
Daily:
- Selkirk Shores State Park, 7101 NYS Rte. 3 Pulaski, offers a daily storybook activity with “There are No Moose on this Island!” by Stephanie Calmenson. The walk starts on Frog Pond Trail and ends on Goosefoot Trail.
- Outdoor activity sheets are also available daily from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the park office.
Saturday, March 28:
- Ainsworth Memorial Library, 6064 S. Main St, Sandy Creek, hosts “Lego Free Play” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Build and create with Legos and wooden and foam blocks. Open to all ages and abilities. Children under age 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Monday, March 30:
- The Williamstown Library, 2877 Co. Rte. 17, offers an unplugged evening from 5 to 8 p.m. featuring games, crafts, art, music and literacy. Attendees can turn in their phone or device at the beginning of the event for a prize.
Tuesday, March 31:
- The Half-Shire Historical Society, 1100 Co. Rte. 48, Richland, hosts a light lunch and ice cream social along with magician Paul Jackman. Join the Easter Bunny for lunch at noon followed by the magic show at 1 p.m. Lunch is sponsored by Rural and Migrant Ministry, and the magic show is sponsored by Sherry LaFlamme Realty.
Wednesday, April 1:
- The Salmon River Fine Arts Center, 4848 Jefferson St., Pulaski, offers art crafts for kids from 10 a.m. to noon
- Selkirk Shores State Park leads a guided hike, “Signs and Sounds of Spring,” from 6 to 7 p.m. Meet at the parking lot across from Frog Pond Trail at 5:45 p.m.
Thursday, April 2:
- The Salmon River Fine Arts Center offers art crafts for kids from 10 a.m. to noon.
- Ricard Grange #933 sponsors a free class at the Williamstown Library. Starting at 6 p.m., participants will make a wind chime.
Friday, April 3:
- The Salmon River Fine Arts Center offers art crafts for kids from 10 a.m. to noon.
- Ainsworth Memorial Library offers drop-in sessions at its art studio from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. People can work on their art and exercise their creativity using the library’s various art supplies or by bringing their own. All ages and abilities are welcome.
Saturday, April 4:
- Ainsworth Memorial Library hosts its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10:30 a.m.
Now in its 20th year, “Screen Free Week” began as “TV Turn-Off Week,” launched by Lorraine Hoyt and her daughter Joanna, volunteers of the Rural Migrant Ministries of Oswego County, along with volunteers of the Half-Shire Historical Society.
