CNY Fair Housing Offers Free Workshops for Landlords and Tenants

OSWEGO COUNTY- CNY Fair Housing will be in Oswego on Thursday, Nov. 21 to hold two free, immersive workshops for landlords and tenants. The first workshop covers fair housing for landlords and is held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The fair housing for service providers and tenants workshop takes place from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Both workshops are hosted in the community room of the Oswego Public Library, 120 E. Second St.

 

Landlords can come to the first workshop to learn more about their fair housing rights and responsibilities as a landlord, including updates in keeping their business in compliance. Topics of discussion include fair housing law updates, New York State compliance, tenant selection, and lease rules and regulations.

 

The workshop for service providers and tenants covers rights and responsibilities as a tenant. Attendees will learn more about fair housing laws, such as reasonable accommodation and modifications, source of income, as well as recent legislation to assist tenants or those served by providers to secure and maintain safe housing. Topics that will be covered include fair housing law updates, design and construction, assistance animals, and disputes between tenants and landlords.
