Oswego County and United Way Host Sixth Annual Senior Picnic Aug. 14

OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Office for the Aging (OFA) partners with the United Way of Greater Oswego County to host the sixth annual senior picnic. The event runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the Mexico VFW Pavilion, 5930 Scenic Ave, Mexico.

The event is open and free to any Oswego County senior aged 60 or older. There is an $8 charge for guests under age 60. Reservations are required and limited to the first 125 participants. To reserve a spot, call the OFA at 315-349-3484 by noon on Friday, Aug. 2.

“We’re happy to host this event again this year,” said OFA Director Sara Sunday. “It’s important to recognize our older residents and keep them involved with the community, and this is just one small way to give back.”

Registration check-in begins at 10 a.m. Attendees are asked not to arrive early as staff will be setting up prior to the event.

The picnic lunch includes a pulled pork sandwich, Hawaiian macaroni salad, fresh watermelon and a sorbet cup. A goodie bag of miscellaneous items will be provided to each participant as well.

The day’s events begin with a presentation on scam prevention, presented by the Oswego County Sherrif’s Department.

Following the presentation will be several rounds of bingo, with prizes donated by community sponsors such as the Oswego Sub Shop, Wacko Gringo, Texas Roadhouse, Aqua Spa, Noras’s, Bella Vita, Garofalo’s, Oswego movie theater, Splash Car Wash, The Mix, Cam’s Pizzeria and Price Chopper.

After bingo, OFA Director Sara Sunday will recognize the 2024 Seniors of the Year, Harold and Sue Wert and Father George Wurz.

Lunch will be served promptly at noon. Following lunch there will be musical entertainment by Sam Domicolo, and attendees are welcome to sing along or dance to their favorite tunes.
