OSWEGO COUNTY – The Oswego County Office for the Aging (OFA) announces that its new Senior Dining and Activity Center will open Tuesday, May 12 in its recently remodeled office space at 74 Bunner St., Oswego.
“When renovations began at the Office for the Aging, a key priority of the project was incorporating a kitchen and dining space where seniors could gather and enjoy a nutritious meal together,” said Oswego County Legislator Michael Solowy, District 23, chairman of the Legislature’s Human Services Committee. “OFA congregate meal sites help ensure that every generation has a seat at the table. We’re proud to invest in a space that supports our seniors and gives them a place to connect, stay active and feel a true sense of belonging in their community.”
The meal site will be open every week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is open to seniors aged 60 and older. Oswego County OFA contracts with Oswego County Opportunities (OCO) Nutrition Services to manage all senior dining and activity centers around the county.
“We’re excited to open our newest senior dining site,” said OFA Director Sara Sunday. “Having this meal site located within our office brings services and community together under one roof, making it easier than ever for older adults to access healthy meals, build friendships and tap into the wide range of support our office provides.”
OCO Nutrition Services will host an open house at the OFA office on Wednesday, May 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to give the public the opportunity to learn more about the congregate dining site program.
“We encourage the community to join us at the open house to see the space for themselves and learn how to sign up for lunch and activities,” said Sunday.
Meals must be ordered in advance by calling the dining site. The senior dining program is voluntary contribution only, with a suggested donation of $3 per day for lunch. No one is denied a meal due to inability to contribute.
In addition to the Oswego location, Oswego County OFA has six other congregate dining sites throughout the county. They are located at:
