PARISH – The news team at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Elementary School were featured guests in the studios at News Channel 9 WSYR-TV studios in Syracuse recently.
The students who have been doing their own version of the morning news at APW Elementary this school year got a behind the scenes look at how the local television station runs.

The guests of morning news anchors Dan Cummings and Jennifer Sanders, the team appeared live on the show and watched from the news floor as their segment on Cool Schools aired.
Earlier this year, Sanders had visited the school to see for herself the news team at work and recorded a segment for the station.
Their clip of the broadcast is available on the APW District website or on the News Channel 9 website.
The students got to see first-hand how all of the magic happens behind the scenes at the studio and how the news anchors get through a broadcast.
They learned about the many jobs that make up the field including videographer, producer, writer, reporter, weather and studio crew members and more.

The students took turns at the news desk and even did a mock broadcast using the script from the day’s newsroom.
Sanders shared her own personal journey to the news desk including what she studied in college and how she got to where she is today.
The field trip opened a world of possibilities for the students regarding a career in broadcast journalism and more than a few left the studio with thoughts of just that as a career for their future.
