The music department at the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Middle School ushered in the holiday season with two evenings of entertainment for parents and community members.
The first event featured the choral and musical talents of fifth and sixth grade students and was held on Tuesday, December 6th. Highlights from this evening include performances by a recorder ensemble as well as a flute ensemble, grade level choral group performances, a combined fifth and sixth grade band performance, several piano soloists, and a sixth grade bell choir performance. The bell choir group is in its inaugural year at APW Middle School and unlike playing a traditional instrument that can produce a variety of notes, each bell musician is responsible for only one note. Music teacher Mary Ann House explained to the audience the difficulty of learning such an instrument as well as the importance of timing and rhythm.
The second concert took place on Monday, December 12th and consisted of performers from the school’s seventh and eighth grades. Musical and choral highlights from this event include performances by piano soloists, guitar trios, flute ensembles, as well as a variety of choral performances from the select chorus, the seventh grade chorus, and the eighth grade chorus. Rounding out this evening of entertainment was a three-song performance by the Junior High Band.
