APW Staff Unite to Raise Awareness about Heart Health

Faculty members in the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (APW) Central School District joined forces recently to show their support for National Heart Month and raise awareness about the hidden dangers of heart disease in women.
Staff members wore the color red on the first Friday in February and collected a $410 donation for the American Heart Association.
Donations to the AHA during the month of February support medical research and educational programs aimed at helping women live longer, heart-healthier lives.
APW’s wear red day is a precursor to an upcoming ‘Wear Purple for Amelia’ day on March 14.
APW faculty and students will wear purple on that day to support the Amelia Michelle Wade Scholarship Fund. Amelia was a junior at APW when she unexpectedly passed away in October of 2010 from secondary pulmonary hypertension.
To honor her memory and raise awareness of the disease, her parents, Eric and Valerie Wade, along with their daughter, Kara, have set up a scholarship in Amelia’s name to be awarded to APW High School seniors who exhibit exceptional character and plan to enter the medical field.
