CNYMUN started in 1983 and is one of the largest high school Model United Nations conferences in New York State.

Regional schools form student groups, representing different world countries. The student groups then research a variety of world issues and prepare for debates at the conference through the lens of that culture. Some of the 2016 topics discussed were: cyber security, human trafficking, stem cell research, terrorism, sanitation, corruption, fraud and more.

The Model United Nations group at APW is an afterschool club run by social studies teacher Adam Deyoe. Deyoe said this year’s delegation of students were all smart, hardworking and capable. He was proud that they were not intimidated to compete against some of the larger city schools that participated in the event.

“They learned so much just by being there,” he said.
