APW’s Passport to the World

Students at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Elementary School ended the year with a trip around the globe and they didn’t even need to leave their school.

The school’s physical education teaching team in cooperation with the APW Parent-Teacher-Student Association coordinated the first ever World Field Day for students in universal pre-kindergarten through grade six.

Students visited six different countries on their fun adventure, engaging in physically active educational activities and learning interesting facts about the country and its government at the same time.

Destinations on the students’ adventure included stops at the United States of America, Mongolia, Germany, England, Italy and Greece.

Coordinated by the school's physical education teaching team, the World Field Day gave students an opportunity to visit six different countries, learn interesting facts about each country and play fun physically challenging activities. Students are learning about Germany from music teacher Gil Lopez and then played “Super Soccer,” a soccer dribbling relay.

World Field Day emphasized teamwork and cooperation and included events such as a “Salute to the Troops” obstacle course, a “Camel Watering Hole” water relay, “Super Soccer” dribbling relay, “Buckingham Palace” bouncy house, an “Italian Pasta Pull” tug of war, and an “Olympic Torch Relay” race.

Each class was issued a passport to track their fun globe-trotting adventure and each country’s leader whether it be a president, chancellor, or prime minister stamped the passport upon completion of their country’s event.

Students were rewarded at the end of their worldly travels with a trip to Iceland for an ice pop and a well-deserved rest in the shade.
