Area Students Earn Presidential Scholarships At SUNY Oswego

OSWEGO, NY — SUNY Oswego has awarded Presidential Scholarships to a select group of students who have reserved places at the college for fall 2016.

The scholarships are $18,800 over four years — $4,700 a year — for students residing on campus. Off-campus Presidential Scholarships are $2,350 a year. For outstanding non-New York state students, the award can be up to $60,000 over fours years, in combination with a Destination Oswego Scholarship.

The following students from the area earned Presidential Scholarships:

Kevin M. Cavalier of Hannibal Street in Fulton, a freshman majoring in biology

Autumn O. Proto of Mount Pleasant Road in Fulton, a sophomore majoring in adolescence education

Tyler M. Stever of County Route 35 in Fulton, a freshman majoring in adolescence education

Sydney M. Waloven of County Route 7 in Hannibal, a freshman majoring in (undeclared at this time)

Jared Bouldin of State Route 34 in Martville, a freshman majoring in physics

Alec P. Suits of Meeker Avenue in Minetto, a freshman majoring in electrical and computer engineering

Katie M. Bradshaw of Franklin Avenue in Oswego, a freshman majoring in studio art

Hannah Brown of West Mohawk Street in Oswego, a freshman majoring in zoology

Nicholas R. Hurlbutt of County Route 57 in Oswego, a freshman majoring in (undeclared at this time)

Justin T. Semione of County Route 7 in Oswego, a freshman majoring in (undeclared at this time)

Emily A. Strzelinski of Nestle Drive in Oswego, a sophomore majoring in biology

Hanna R. Greulich of Centerville Road in Pulaski, a sophomore majoring in biology

SUNY Oswego honored more than 850 incoming students — freshmen and transfers — with merit scholarships. First-year students who have completed the strongest academic programs with the highest grade averages and standardized test scores are invited to become Presidential Scholars.

The awards are part of about $5 million in merit scholarship money offered at SUNY Oswego. These funds are in addition to the more than $80 million in need-based grants, loans, work-study and scholarship awards that SUNY Oswego students receive annually.

Admission to SUNY Oswego is competitive. U.S. News Media Group counts SUNY Oswego among the top public regional universities in the North for 2016, and the Princeton Review includes Oswego in its 2016 college guidebook “The Best Northeastern Colleges” and in its national list of “Green Colleges.”

A 155-year-old comprehensive college in the State University of New York system, Oswego enrolls about 8,000 students in its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; School of Business; School of Communication, Media and the Arts; and School of Education.
